By John Perry, San Juan Capistrano
After my letter to the editor was published by The Dispatch online, Jonathan Volzke wrote a blistering response with all sorts of claims about my character. I started wondering why such a personal attack was necessary. Is there something more to the story that caused the reaction? So I did a little internet searching. Here’s what I found:
• Jonathan Volzke works for Faubel Public Affairs.
• Faubel Public Affairs has Poseidon Resources for a client.
• Poseidon Resources is seeking to build the county’s first seawater desalination plant in Huntington Beach. Poseidon is also on the board of the Orange County Taxpayers Association.
• The Orange County Taxpayers Association is also a client of Faubel Public Affairs.
• On October 4, 2012 Poseidon donates $25,000 to OCTaxPAC, which is sponsored by the OC Taxpayers Association. On October 9, 2012 Poseidon donates another $5,000 to OCTaxPAC.
• On October 29,2012 a mailer published by the OCTaxPAC is received by voters in San Juan Capistrano extolling the virtues Sam Allevato and Ginny Kerr as job producers who have caused the unemployment rate in San Juan Capistrano to drop by 25 percent.
I admit to believing in the tooth fairy, but I find it hard not to believe that somehow Jonathan is steering out-of-town money into our little City Council race. It might be legal, but this kind of political sleight of hand cries out for a little sunshine.
For every contribution there is a payback. I will be watching.

Was Jonathan Volzke already working as a lobbyist for Faubel Public Affairs when he wrote the editorial in the Dispatch endorsing Sam Allevato and Ginny Kerr? Isn’t that a violation of FPPC regulations?
How about when he wrote the editorial in the Dispatch supporting and promoting Faubel Public Affairs client SDG&E’s project in San Juan – was he working for Faubel Public Affairs at that time? How is that legal or even ethical?
What about when he editorialized in the Dispatch about support of Faubel Public Affairs client Distrito La Novia’s development in San Juan; I suppose that was “just a coincidence”?
I’m surprised the Dispatch allows this level of dishonesty and unethical psuedo-journalism. Volzke has definitely lost credibility in the community. Unfortunately, by allowing him to use the Dispatch as his political lobbying mouthpiece, the Dispatch seems headed down that path too.
Jonathan, for many years we thought so much more of you than this. You sold out not only the residents, but our entire community. I am so disapointed.
What happened to the Jonathan we knew and trusted? I just can’t comprehend what I am reading. I was forced to check the facts out for myself. It’s all true. We feel so betrayed by you, how could you allow yourself to be sold out like this? Faubel! We considered you a fair reporter, you were a friend to us when you came to town and started the Dispatch. Now, you have breached our trust, lost your integrity, shown your true colors, not to mention using the Dispatch editorials as your mouthpiece to manipulate voters. It’s wrong, you are nothing more than a lobbiest. We agree with Mr. Worthington and Mr. Perry. I would not vote for anyone you endorse as they are viewed like you, a big disapointment.
Talk about payback, we will all be watching. Not only is Volzke done in San Juan, but,so is the Dispatch, lost all credibility. Volske started the Dispatch, and his above involvement will end the Dispatch. Now, that is payback!
