The Capo Girls Fastpitch Softball 12U team took first place in the Orange County ASA Federation League Pumpkin Tournament Oct. 18. The team is comprised of girls from San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente and Dana Point.

In pool play Capo beat Rancho Trabuco 11 to 3, and Tustin 5 to 1. In the elimination rounds, Capo beat Mission Viejo 9-4. Alyson Salas gave the team the lead against Mission Viejo by hitting a grand slam.

The semi-final game against Irvine was close and the score was tied at 2-2 at the end, which forced extra innings. But the Capo bats came alive and scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break the tie and advance to the finals against Tustin.

In the finals the Capo girls defeated Tustin 12-2, evoking a mercy rule to claim the championship.

“I am so proud of all the girls. They have all worked hard for this victory. Every player really stepped up their game and they all came together as a team,” Capo coach Dan Massucco said in a press release.

The Capo Girls 12U team is made up of: Elibeth Flores, Claire Steines, Nikki Greuel, Alexis White, Mariah Bohl, Charlotte Smith, Kyra Massucco, Caitlyn Sung, Kennedy Garman, Jordan Parkhurst, Alyson Salas and Hannah Dutt.

Next up for the Capo girls is the Turkey Tournament in Tustin which takes place November 16 to November 18.

This is the first year Capo has fielded two 14U teams and one 12U team in the Federation Division. In addition, the league has one 12U, two 10U and one 8U team in the Recreation division.

Spring Season registration is now open and Opening Day is February 9. There are free clinics planned throughout the off season to get the girls ready to play.
