Ginny Kerr, who has served on San Juan Capistrano’s Planning Commission for the past five years and ran unsuccessfully for City Council in this year’s election, announced she is resigning from her post.
Kerr said her decision came out of her desire to speak freely about future issues she is tied to. As a planning commissioner, Kerr said she would have to recuse herself from discussing those issues and would be prohibited from speaking with city staff as well.
“I didn’t want to be in a position to ever be questioned about who I talked to or what I said. I’m a real stickler for playing by the rules, honesty and having everything out in the open,” Kerr said.
Kerr’s term was scheduled to end in December. She attended her last meeting on Tuesday, November 20. At their November 13 meeting, the City Council approved reducing the number of planning commissioners from seven to five. New appointments will be made in June and March thereafter.
Kerr said she has no plans on running for City Council again but is open to helping the city in other capacities. Kerr will continue to serve on the city’s Successor Agency to the Community Redevelopment Agency.
