Capistrano Valley Christian freshman and soon to-be sophomore Ben Sukut was named to the MaxPreps 2012 Freshman All-American Football Team on December 30.
Sukut, who played well on both sides of the ball for the Eagles, was given first-team defensive honors.
As a defensive back for Capistrano Valley Christian, Sukut was third on the team in total tackles (54) and first on the team in interceptions (6).
Sukut’s defining moment of the season came on November 1 in the Eagles final game of the regular season against league rival Southlands Christian. In just the 24 short minutes that made up the first half, Sukut picked off Southland Christian’s quarterback four times, returning all four interceptions for touchdowns.
Sukut was also effective on offense, where he played at the wide receiver position. Sukut led the team in receptions (89), yards (1,252) and touchdowns (11). In his freshman campaign he averaged just over 113 yards per game.
