The Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Wednesday night to have staff analyze a pay increase for the district’s substitute teachers.

CUSD currently pays its substitute teachers $90 a day, $100 per day after 10 days and $221 per day after 40 days of work. In order to become more competitive with neighboring districts such as Irvine Unified, Laguna Beach Unified and Saddleback Valley Unified, trustees asked staff to bring back an analysis of increasing the district’s rates to $115 per day and $130 after 40 days.

Staff will present its findings to the board for approval at a future meeting.
