The city of San Juan Capistrano is a unique community grounded in a history of Native American culture, the Mission established by Franciscan missionaries in 1776, and an agrarian past. Although the oldest community in Orange County, San Juan Capistrano Officially incorporated as a city in 1961. A council-manager form of government, with five elected council members elected citywide, direct the city operations and municipal services.

Parks
Cook Park – La Novia is on the corner of La Novia and Calle Arroyo. The park features picnic tables, barbecues, children’s playground equipment, restrooms, a volleyball/basketball court and baseball field. This site is perfect for both family and company picnics. The baseball field is available for rent for those wanting to have a ballgame added to the list of things to do at their picnic.
Descanso Park is behind the Hot Springs Dance Hall at 32506 Paseo Adelanto. This park features picnic tables, barbecues, children’s playground equipment, horseshoe pits, restrooms and small equestrian arena. The park is perfect for both family and company picnics. Parking is limited for this park.
Historical Town Center Park is at 31806 El Camino Real, just south of Ortega Highway. This park features a large grassy area, picnic tables and the holiday tree. This park is the site of the San Juan Summer Nites Concert Series, South Orange County Community Theatre’s Shakespeare Under the Stars performances, the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony and more.
The Sports Park is on Camino del Avion, just west of Alipaz Street. The park was purchased and built with money generated from the city’s 1990 Open Space Bond. It is home to baseball and softball fields, as well as a snack bar and built-in restrooms.
