After a Dana Point woman died from a pregnancy complication, a group of friends decided it was time to do something to raise awareness and funds.
On Friday, July 1, the fifth annual Love For Meg Memorial Golf Tournament and silent auction will be held at the San Juan Hills Golf Club.
“We’re trying to do something good out of something awful [that occurred],” said Jill Townsend, one of the event’s organizers.
In March 2012, Megan Gerhard-Weisberg was giving birth to her second son when she suffered heart failure caused by amniotic fluid embolism (AFE), a rare pregnancy complication. Her son, Tosh, was delivered via emergency C-section, and spent three weeks in the intensive care unit where he received treatment for oxygen deprivation caused by the AFE.
This event, which aims to raise money for the Megan Gerhard-Weisberg Memorial Fund benefiting her sons Cadyn and Tosh.
“Everyone gets together, it’s a celebration of Meg’s life,” Townsend said.
Townsend said they’re expecting 140 golfers, and about 300 come out to the dinner and silent auction.
