NEWPORT BEACH – A high school social science teacher, who also worked as the assistant girls’ volleyball and surf team coach, was sentenced today for providing alcohol and having an unlawful sexual relationship with two female students. Aaron Edwin Westbrook, 26, Irvine, pleaded guilty to the court to three felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, two felony counts of oral copulation of a minor, two felony counts of administering a controlled substance to enable a felony, three misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and three misdemeanor counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor. Westbrook was sentenced by the Honorable Gregory Jones to 240 days in jail and three years of formal probation over the objection of the People, who advocated for state prison time.
Between June 1, 2008, and Nov. 1, 2008, Westbrook had an unlawful sexual relationship with two separate female victims on separate occasions, both 17 years old, whom he met while teaching at Capistrano Valley High School. He gave alcohol to both victims and illegally engaged in oral copulation and intercourse at his home and at the home of one of the victims. The school principal contacted the police after receiving a letter from a concerned parent.
Deputy District Attorney Nikki Buracchio of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.
