The City Council honored 27 students from Marco Forster Middle School who completed the Los Angeles Marathon on March 18.
The students began training for the 26.2-run last October, practicing two to four times a week.
“They feel a sense of belonging and learned to set long-term goals in a society where people want instant gratification,” said Mayor Larry Kramer. “It is a great pleasure to honor these students these evening.”
Kramer and Mayor Pro Tem John Taylor read off the students’ names and presented them with certificates before they all joined together, coaches included, to take photos.
Taylor’s daughter, Claire, was among the students who were honored. It was Claire Taylor’s second marathon, according to her father.
