The Capistrano Dispatch

The Capistrano Unified School District announced March 12 the Orange County Department of Education’s selection of Colleen Keegan Lamb, a lead food services worker at Capistrano Valley High School, as one of six Orange County Classified School Employees of the Year. Lamb will be honored at the OCDE Board of Education meeting on April 15, and will then be eligible for recognition at the state level.

Lamb, a 13-year employee at CVHS, has embraced every element of her job and dedicated herself to serving the nutritional needs of her students and fellow employees over the years. For Lamb, her job has been more than preparing and serving meals, cleaning up after breakfast, morning break and lunch, maintaining inventory, placing food orders and managing her food service staff. It has also been about fostering relationships with the students, getting to know them on a more personal level and serving as another supportive adult in their daily lives.

“Colleen is the greatest ‘lunch lady,’” said school principal Kevin Astor. “She is a leader and advocate for our students. When there were discussions about possibly eliminating breakfast break at CVHS, she spoke up as a voice for the students who depend on school food services for meals—particularly those who may not be able to have nutritious breakfasts before school. She relishes in every opportunity to serve and support our kids.”
