The San Juan Capistrano Rotary Club’s annual Ridge Events took place Saturday, October 6, with 105 runners turning out to take part in the action. Once again, the event featured a 5K and 10K trail run as well as a mountain bike poker ride. A new wrinkle in this year’s installment was a combination 10K trail run and mountain bike poker ride.
The poker ride featured participants traversing the hills of San Juan, stopping at designated break points, to collect a playing card from each of the five stations. When the rider reached the finish line, whoever had the best five-card poker hand won a prize from Buy My Bikes bike shop.
The trail runs not only attract top-level running talent, but it is also a draw for those looking to get some exercise and have fun.
Here is a rundown of the top San Juan residents who placed in their respective divisions in the 5K trail runs:
Claire Taylor, 5K- first place U18 Women. Jill Dorris, 5K- second place (fifth overall) 40-49 Women. Neil Armstrong, 5K- first place (fourth overall) 19-29 Men.
