The Camino Real Playhouse is in need of some immediate help.
After six decades of use, the playhouse’s air conditioner has broken down past repair. The playhouse is now seeking donations for a “non-event,” to purchase a new air-conditioning system before the hot and busy summer season.
“It’s finally curtains for our air-conditioning system. There will be no further encores for this diehard performer,” the playhouse said in a news release. “With summer rapidly approaching, it is absolutely critical that we sign up a new star to shine on (cool) our patrons and kids.”
The playhouse needs to raise $40,000 for the new air conditioner by Saturday, June 16, just in time to accommodate the annual Performing Arts Summer Camp for Kids. The camp, which runs from June 25 to Aug. 31 and is directed by Acting Academy for Kids, hosts hundreds of children, from ages 4 to 13, for acting, music, art and dance instruction.
The playhouse wants to make sure the children are comfortable throughout the summer.
“In order to create lasting memories for the kids on the playhouse main stage, they need a comfortable learning climate! A new air-conditioning system will enable their experiences to be positive.”
Donations, or “tickets,” for the non-event are $25 per person and are unlimited.
