The Capistrano Dispatch

If you find yourself noticing more purple hues in San Juan Capistrano this weekend, it’s not your imagination.

Supporters of Relay for Life of San Juan Capistrano are participating in “Paint the Town Purple Day” on Saturday, May 21, in order to raise awareness for the annual Relay for Life event, set for June 11-12.

Residents interested in participating on Saturday are meeting at 8:30 a.m. for an orientation at Fluidmaster, located at 30800 Rancho Viejo Road in San Juan. Volunteers will be putting up flyers and purple decorations around town throughout the morning, while encouraging people and businesses to wear and promote the color purple through June 11.

Prior to “Paint the Town Purple Day,” Relay for Life of San Juan Capistrano is inviting the community to “Dine in for Dollars” at Marie Callendar’s, located at 31791 Del Obispo Street in San Juan. On Friday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., 25 percent of each check will go toward supporting the American Cancer Society – Relay for Life San Juan Capistrano. To participate in the fundraiser, follow Relay for Life of San Juan Capistrano on Facebook and present the flyer posted on the group’s Facebook page.

The San Juan Capistrano City Council approved a “Paint the Town Purple Day” proclamation in March, urging citizens to wear and display purple, celebrate cancer survivorship, remember loved ones lost to the disease, honor caregivers and join the city’s fight against cancer by participating in the June 11-12 Relay For Life event at the San Juan Capistrano Sports Park.
