A 3 a.m. accident in Trabuco Canyon on Nov. 14 resulted in the death of a 24-year-old San Juan Capistrano man, according to authorities.
Omar Muniz-Velazque of San Juan Capistrano was riding with at least three other people in a truck when it somehow overturned while on a trail, according to California Highway Patrol officials. Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority said Muniz-Velazque was thrown from the vehicle and suffered extensive injuries.
An Orange County Coroner’s report states that Muniz-Velazque was found on Trabuco Creek Road, approximatley 1.75 miles east of Trabuco Canyon. According to the report, he had been riding in the truck bed.
Concialdi said OCFA firefighters and paramedics arrived to find Muniz-Velazque’s friends performing CPR on him. After attempts to save Muniz-Velazque’s life, paramedics pronouned him dead at the scene.
CHP is continuing to investigate the incident, including the cause of the accident. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
