Eagles Basketball Players Rack up Tournament Honors

The Capistrano Valley Christian boys basketball team had a successful run at the Century Elks Holiday Classic Tournament Dec. 29-30. The Eagles barnstormed their way to the tournament’s championship game, where they defeated Twenty Nine Palms 72-59 to claim the tournament hardware.

Three Eagles (13-4) players were named to the All-Tournament team, and senior Amazon Nwoye was named the tournament MVP. Senior forward Spider Adentunji and senior guard KCI Thompson were named to the All-Tournament first team.

Capistrano Valley Christian will host Calvin Christian on Jan. 8 and open San Joaquin League play on Jan. 22 against Saddleback Valley Christian.

Stallions Girls Soccer Breaks into Top-10

The San Juan Hills High School girls soccer program earned a spot in the CIF-SS Division 1 rankings two weeks ago. The Stallions debuted in the divisional top-10 for the first time this season as the No. 9-ranked squad.

San Juan Hills (9-2-2) opened its season with a nine-match unbeaten streak, toppling regional rivals Santa Margarita, Mission Viejo and Capistrano Valley along the way. The Stallions’ first loss of the season came against Esperanza in the Excalibur Tournament on Dec. 28.

San Juan Hills was set to open Sea View League play against Tesoro on Jan. 7. Results were not available at press time.
