The St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church in San Juan Capistrano is hosting a charity event Hoedown 4 Hunger. The event is a fundraiser that will go towards Family Assistance Ministries (FAM) and Focus OC. Hoedown 4 Hunger will be from 12-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 3. The event is a fundraiser with 100 percent of the proceeds going to feed hungry children and families in Orange County through FAM and Focus OC. Focus OC delivers food to families who don’t have enough money to feed their children and are living in small hotels. Focus OC provides food via vouchers and are more essential in summer when school food programs are not available. FAM runs a daily food bank in San Clemente and a weekly food bank in San Juan Capistrano on Wednesdays. FAM also gives out clothing, delivers food to elderly people living in cars and on the streets, in addition to other services. The hoedown is being hosted by founder Irene Basdakis, of the St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church in San Juan Capistrano.
“We truly begin to live a life of purpose when we can look beyond our own Churches and households and see the community around us as our neighbors, whom we are called to care for and embrace as part of our extended family,” Basdakis said in a press release.
The hoedown will feature live music from the Kelly Boyz and will have a choice of ribs, hamburgers or hotdogs, and drink selections. Awards for the best tasting chili and best pie. There will also be free activities for kids. The event will be at the Limo Barn in Reata Park, 28632 Ortega Hwy., San Juan Capistrano.
