Full-road closure for Ortega Highway reconfiguration set for Nov. 3
By Andrea Papagianis
To mitigate potential service disruptions and maintain response times to eastern San Juan Capistrano due to upcoming Interstate 5 and Ortega Highway construction and closures, the Orange County Fire Authority has opened a temporary fire station in Reata Park.
Beginning Monday, Nov. 3, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will work to reconfigure Ortega Highway between I-5 and Del Obispo Street. This construction phase will see a full closure of Ortega Highway over I-5. The closure is expected to last up to three weeks.
This road closure will impact fire service delivery east of I-5 provided by OCFA Fire Station 7, located in western San Juan. The temporary station, OCFA Fire Station 207, will be staffed through mid-November or until Caltrans has completed the reconfiguration. Both fire stations, located at 31865 Del Obispo St. and 28632 Ortega Highway will be open during construction.
