The city has scheduled two events in support of San Juan Capistrano’s adopted regiment, the 1st Battalion, 11th Marines.
The 1/11 Adoption Committee is hosting a car wash on Saturday, September 8 in the parking lot on the corner of Ortega Highway and El Camino Real, adjacent to the Camino Real Playhouse. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., all are welcome to get their cars washed for a donation of any amount.
“It makes the Marines feel like they have some ties to San Juan and lets them know people care about them, and it allows citizens to thank Marines,” committee member Kathy Hooper said.
Proceeds from the event will go toward supporting the 1/11 committee’s upcoming events, specifically the annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball. The fall event is an opportunity for Marines, sailors and other military personnel to celebrate their service.
In preparation for the ball, the committee has also started its annual “Ball Gown Donation Drive.” The committee is asking for gently-used gowns of any size and style for Marine spouses.
Donations can be dropped off at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center, 25925 Camino del Avion, until October 1. The community center is available to accept donations from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and between 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays.
